Eczema Lotion Blend

I decided to combine these two oils in an unscented baby lotion I use and I love the smell. Vetiver is super thick so you need to warm it up in your hands or a warm glass of water to thin it a bit. Vetiver helps with acne, arthritis, muscle aches/pains and helps with lowered immunity. Lavender essential oil is great for abrasions, acne, aging skin, burns, scarring and great for skin disorders. These two oils combined into a lotion will work wonders on your skin. I have celiac disease so a good, non greasy lotion is great when I can find one. This unscented lotion fits perfect for this recipe. Great for rashes, eczema, dry patches and itchy skin! (since I am a rep for Poofy Organics I tend to use the products I have one hand especially the oils but there are other options for unscented lotion and oils out there just make sure you look at the ingredients listed and you trust the oils are pure)

Ingredients:
60ml (2oz) of Unscented Organic Lotion
10 drops of Vetiver Essential Oil (Vetiveria zizanioides): Helps heals scars and immune system booster.
10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia) Anti bacterial, anti-fungal, stimulates cell growth.

Directions:
Add ingredients into a container. A snap PET lid would be better but all I had was a jar. Mix together with a glass stirring rod for about a minute and you are all set with a great moisturizer for those trouble spots!

Safety:
This is a 2% dilution so safe for adults and teens and best to use when the skin is inflamed as it will sooth and calm the skin. As always make sure you spot check before just rubbing this lotion all over your body. This is meant to be used as a hand and body lotion.

Muscle Relaxation Blend

I had extremely sore muscles from a fall that occurred and the benefits of lavender include muscle relaxation so why not after a rough fall to take a lavender bath to not only ease and relax me but also relax my muscles. Lavender also helps with bruising and inflammation.

I used milk as my carrier/dilution because it is all I had at the time and well I ALWAYS have milk. You can't just add oils to water as they don't mix and could cause skin irritation. You want to always add a carrier. The milk is good because the oil binds with the fat of the milk. This dilution is meant for adults not children.

Ingredients:
4 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
1tsp Whole Milk (fattier the better)

Simple Laundry Detergent for Sensitive Skin

Organic Laundry Detergent :
For Sensitive Skin and Safe for Everyone in the
Family

This recipe I created myself after some research of not wanting DIY recipe that contained Borax. Borax isn't needed and does the same thing as washing soda. I also have an HE washing machine and a front loader so if this works for my machine it will work for yours! I am also on a septic and this recipe is septic safe! Please always though consult your users manual before using anything.

Ingredients:

One Bar of Unscented Soap :
This bar made for sensitive skin and a great soap for babies and there isn't any scent to it.

2 Cups of Washing Soda :

Washing soda is just sodium carbonate. Here is the EWG info on the ingredient itself. You can make your own via baking soda but that is ALOT of time and work so I just buy it!

5 Drops Organic Lemon Essential Oil:
I use certified organic oils wherever I can and so should you! They go through a third party testing so you know they are pure and not altered. The lemon oil acts as a degreaser and you dont need much!

1/2 Cup Organic ACV:
(optional)
I am saying this is optional cause I actually don't always use it but it is good to use during the rinse cycle because the vinegar helps dissolve the detergents and soaps off of your clothes. Laundry detergent has a very alkaline PH, which can irritate skin so using the vinegar helps reset this PH level. When I have not used it we have not had any skin issues and everyone in this family has very sensitive skin so that is why this is optional and you use during your rinse cycle.

Directions:

Grate the bar of soap with my cheese grater and added to my blender or you can use a food processor. Add to your blender the washing soda and blend til it creates a powder. That is all! Add to a container Simple right? I know! Crazy easy!

Instructions for Use:

Add to each load of laundry 2-3 tbs of the soap mixture. Then add five drops per load and I just drop right on top of the mixture. Then if you choose add 1/2 cup to your rinse section of your washing machine.

AND DONE!

Fever

Blend is for Ages 2 and up
The oils used in this blend are immune supportive, anti bacterial, calming and soothing to the muscles and the body. ie achiness

2 drops of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
1 Drop of Sweet Orange (Citrus Sinensis)
1 Drop of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
2 Tbs of Milk*

Directions: Fill bath up with luke warm water (children usually dont care for the cold water so why torture) Then pour in your blended mix you created and swoosh around. Have child soak and relax for at least 30 minutes.

*Testimony of using this blend: When I used this blend within about three hours his fever broke and never came back.

*Milk: In alot of my blends you will see milk referenced as my carrier. I like milk due to I always have it available and it is cheaper than some carriers since I blend often. The fat content of the milk is what the oil binds to to help blend it.

Disclaimer for all Recipes Listed: None of these blends have been approved by the FDA these are my opinions only based on the knowledge I have gained through course work at aromahead institute, textbooks and case studies I have read. If you are on medications, or have any health conditions that might put you at risk when using essential oils please contact your primary care provider first. Safety First.

Allergies & Essential Oils

Managing Allergies Naturally with Essential Oils

Do you have allergies and nothing but a load of medications from the medicine cabinet that somewhat help the situation for about an hour then you are back to stuffiness, scratchy throat, puffy eyes? Yep my daughter knows these symptoms well!

Did you know that most allergies can be linked to stress? Lack of sleep? When you are not nourishing your body your immune system has issues being at its full potential during the day. So you need to first make sure you are sleeping and not stressed or your energy will be lacking because your immune system is overworked and tired.

Shower Steaming with Chamomille

Steam Inhalation can take place in the shower. So simple too. I am not sleeping and it more cause my brain is running wild this week of "to dos" but not enough time to do it in.
So I read a nice congestion remedy for the shower but I figured I would use my Roman Chamomile oil for relaxation.
What you do is you do your "thing" in the shower then get it where the shower is nice and steamy hot to where you can tolerate it comfortably and you just a couple of drops in front of your feet (away from the spraying water, I just move shower head away from where the oils will land) and just breath in and out the aroma.
The steam from the shower releases the oils into the air.
I stood there probably for about 10 minutes just breathing in and out and just trying to relax my body. This is nice cause so easy if you have the oils and you dont have to worry about dilution ratios just dont drop the oil on your feet.

Lavender Oil Linked to Estrogen in Boys?

Does Lavender Contain Estrogen?

It has been said that it contains estrogen. This is a great write up in regards to that in fact that no it doesn't have an affect on boys. This started out when there were three isolated cases of gynecomastia (enlarged breasts) occurred in three boys going through their puberty age and they had all used topical products that contained essential oils. A study was conducted on rats and oil was used but at a 5,000 to 1000,000 times greater ratio than the average/typical exposure that us humans would ever have even if we used it everyday all day and even then nothing occurred as far as signs of estrogen in a male rat. So basically was a coincidence with no evidence to support the conclusion of lavender causing their symptoms.
At least through all these studies of lavender oil they were able to conclude more safety information.

Ingesting Essential Oils

Just Say No To Ingesting Of Oils

This is what I personally advocate no matter what information is out there!

This topic is being thrown around too loosely these days like a vitamin you pop daily with a glass of water. HELLO PEOPLE do you know what ingesting essential oils can do to your body especially when you are not educated on them? So you are going to just take the direct sales persons word for how to treat and heal your body? NO WAY! I wouldn't even tell people on how to use an oil. I will suggest but definitely never suggest internally!

Top, Middle & Base Notes of Essential Oils

The "Notes" of Essential Oils

For essential oils there is what is called "notes" and there are three of them when you are creating a blend. It is good to be aware of what these are so you know how your blends will work together to create that perfect smell that your nose will love. These three notes are called the top, middle and bottom. Below is a list of which oils are considered in which "note" category. When creating a blend the rule of thumb is to select an oil from each note but use less of the top and middle note and more of the base note.

What the FDA Has To Say About "Organic"

What the FDA's Job is in Regards to Organic vs Certified Organic Companies

This information is taken right from the FDA (yeah I know boring and long right?) I got sucked into reading and it became good information for me to post and probably something you wouldn't normally find and read on your own assuming. I have summarized at the bottom what the FDA is saying.

Welcome to Greener Living: Essential Oil Nerd

Yes I have fallen down the essential oil road with many other people out there...but you actually might like it here!! The purpose of this blog is to basically post what I am learning as I learn it myself! I am currently taking some courses at Aromahead Institute and honestly I love journaling and online is the easiest way for me...so welcome to my Essential Oil Journal!

Why essential oils? Honestly it is rather interesting and I always enjoyed chemistry/science so as I started to dive more into essential oils I really liked learning about them and the things they can help with in your everyday life. I feel like we all struggle with some daily challenges that are either stressful, nauseating (literally), overwhelming etc. For our household we have alot of stress and lack of calmness (thanks to my three kids), but also alot of fatigue and sleep problems (especially me). Oils have been around for years and have helped with all these scenarios taking place in my household, so why wouldn't I try this essential oil kick everyone is on right?

The farmgirl side of this oil nerd... I also farm and feed my animals organically and totally believe in healthier, greener living! I tend to not even look at marketing labels anymore and just immediately turn a product around and start reading the ingredients. (Cant fool this gal with colorful and non meaningful words on your labels!) I also sell certified organic products! The company has a smaller oil line and keeps coming out with more oil options, but also the basis of our ingredients are actually essential oils. So, since I personally use and sell the products that contain these essential oils I wanted to know what my ingredients were in the products I was using! So here I am on the essential oil path and wow there is alot of info! I wanted to blog about what I learn just to keep my head on straight or my brain won't shut off at night!

So my promise to you is I will try and stick to just the essential oil topic, since I deal with many other topics and if you want to know more about farming life, well you can visit my other blog page Aisling Farms to go even one step further into the self sustaining and organically, clean lifestyle!

So sit back and make sure you subscribe to this blog (scroll to the bottom to subscribe) so that you will get notified of when I get into my mode of needing to put things in writing! Feel free to ask questions and if I don't know the answer I will research it. God knows I have plenty of study material on my bedside table in regards to essential oils and the pile keeps growing!

Just know that the number one thing I am dedicated to is being safe with oils. I recommend going first through the tabs on this blog and learning safety, how to use the oils and what are essential oils!
